Production History
Since its creation during the Golden Age of Musicals (1940s and 50s), Guys and Dolls has had a rich production history leading up to our production here at Illinois State University!
Chronology:

1950: Guys and Dolls premiered at the 46th Street Theatre on Broadway on November 24, 1950.

It was directed by playwright, George S. Kaufman. The production ran for 1,200 performances.

1953: The West End premiere of the musical was on May 28, 1953, at the London Coliseum. ​

1955: New York City Center mounts a limited engagement run of Guys and Dolls.

1955: A film adaption was created of Guys and Dolls starring Marlon Brando, Frank Sinatra, Jean Simmons and Vivian Blaine.

1965: New York City Center mounts another limited engagement run of Guys and Dolls.

1966: New York City Center puts on a third limited engagement run of Guys and Dolls.

1976: A Broadway revival began and this production featured an all-black cast.

​It featured new musical arrangements in the style of Motown and was under the supervision of book writer, Abe Burrows. It ran from July 1976 to February 1977.

1982: There was a major revival at the National Theatre with brassier orchestrations and larger-scale dance numbers.

It ran from March 1982 till late 1983, but returned to the National Theatre for five months in 1984 before going on a national tour.

1992: Another extremely successful Broadway revival was mounted starring Nathan Lane, Peter Gallagher and Faith Prince.

2009: The most recent Broadway revival ran from March 1 to June 14, 2009, and featured Oliver Platt and Lauren Graham.
